Tone
At the weekend I stumbled across the exact tone that I want for Don. As a result, I’m completely redrafting the second draft (you might call it a third draft, except I didn’t complete the original second so I’m preferring to call it Second Draft Mk.II).
This has put the stoppers on completing anything by the end of September but I don’t mind, because right now it’s bloody fantastic. It’s exactly how I’ve wanted it to sound all along, but I just couldn’t get it right. As a result, it ended up sounding quite flat. Now it’s bouncing along and it has good pace and it just feels more authentic.
Abi is away this weekend with her mum, so the plan is to spend morning noon and night on it Saturday/Sunday. It’s flying onto the page at the moment so who knows where we’ll be by Monday. Hopefully somewhere near complete.
I’ve also found the ideal way to incorporate all the research I’ve done. Basically, I’m making a lot up, thereby building a fictional scientific reality around various facts that I semi-understand. So it will make sense and will all be theoretically possible but will also be baffling and hopefully in places quite funny.
I’ll report back on Sunday night. This will probably be something depressing about how nothing has gone to plan and I’m giving it all up.
(No, it won’t be. I’ve been on this project for nine months now and the baby’s ready to come out. Nearly).
